Global Strategies in the Age of Geoeconomics (G-SAGE)

Home

Background and Rationale:

The global strategic landscape is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the increasing use of economic tools—trade, technology, finance, infrastructure, energy, and data—as instruments of geopolitical power. This interplay between economic capabilities and political influence has elevated geoeconomics to the centre of global policymaking. However, existing scholarship remains either too broad or lacks region-specific depth, leaving a critical gap in contextualised and forward-looking analyses.

To address this deficit, CUTS International is launching a Monograph Series on Global Geoeconomic Strategies, aiming to produce rigorous, data-driven, and policy-relevant research on the evolving geoeconomic dynamics across major regions of the world. Each monograph focuses on a specific region, analysing how states leverage economic instruments to advance strategic objectives in an era of multipolarity.

The series also incorporates a capacity-building model by encouraging senior experts to co-author with early-career scholars, thereby promoting intergenerational mentorship and developing future leaders in the field of international political economy.

The initiative will culminate in a series of seminars and a global conference, where CUTS will release a compendium of all monographs, bringing together selected contributors and sparking meaningful conversations.
